Torrential Precipitation Worsen Circumstances for Uprooted Palestinians in Gaza, Agencies Warn

Almost 55,000 households have so far been impacted by the storms, with their possessions and shelters destroyed.

Intense rains over the last seven days have compounded the already dire circumstances of the vast number of evacuated residents in the territory, as stated by relief agencies.

"Terrible" Weather Creates Severe Dangers

A official characterized the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with downpours so severe that as much as 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the ground.

"The recent weather was really difficult for the people. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gales were so powerful," stated the spokesperson.

There is grave concern that children residing in tents in damp garments will succumb to hypothermia and various ailments.

Fatalities and Widespread Loss

The health ministry have stated that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in structural failures caused by the storms.

Other reports put a higher death toll. Officials reported that numerous structures had collapsed completely and many others had been partly destroyed.

Aid Operations Deemed Not Enough

Agencies have increased distribution of tarpaulins, bedding and clothing after the truce began, but they have said there is remains not enough aid entering.

"Officials are operating tirelessly to provide that aid and to hand it out, but the scale of the requirements is so enormous that we continue to see thousands of people and minors who are truly struggling every night," stated one representative.

Ongoing Issues and Agreement Plans

The subsequent part of the truce encompasses plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the withdrawal of military forces, and other terms.

Humanitarian groups have underscored the need for "increased and sustained aid to address pressing and future needs."

The hostilities was sparked by an assault in late 2023. Later campaigns have resulted in a substantial number of fatalities in the region, according to health ministry figures.
