The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
