The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, though countless followers who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the possibility that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage another team in England. So that means in case it's my former club...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide later on, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on the specific conditions must arise to draw him back to management, he confessed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a car crash with his brother in July.
“How do you replace a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
