The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial championship series after the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the ALCS.
Behind by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the anticipated World Series.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he added.
Toronto claimed the title on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
