Suspected Harasser Asked: 'Yet Imagine I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female accused with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a phone message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently declared she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal learned call records and evidence recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test over 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is among the most covered child disappearance cases and remains open.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate phone message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm overweight and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "What if there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What happens next? Isn't that significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a living here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," the recording stated.
The panel was advised that via emails, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an investigator with the police force who collated the data, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the call data.
On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
That day Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I will continue and I plan to establish my position."
The court learned Mrs Spragg established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in the county in last December.
Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be treated respectfully in the months before the visit to that location, the county, in last December.
The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in last November, planning attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We have to assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the appearance to their house, the defendant dispatched a message which stated: "We're currently sat outside the McCanns' house with our headlights off resembling investigators. I wanted to achieve this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The trial ongoing.
