Spurs Boss Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on Frank

Spurs supporters who booed goalkeeper Vicario were informed later "they cannot be true Tottenham fans" by boss Thomas Frank.

Spurs let in two scores in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight home defeat of 2025.

However the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' second score when the keeper gave away possession well beyond his box.

He came out to deal with a high pass and took the ball towards the sideline.

However, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline recorded at 36.6 metres.

Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Spurs fans jeered him.

The team were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those booing episodes really irritated the manager.

"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly jeered the incident and jeered after, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be real Tottenham fans that act that way. Fair enough booing following the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind one another going forward."

Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.

Ex- Premier League keeper Joe Hart remarked that the next score was "totally preventable".

"I certainly understand the fans' disappointment," Hart added. "I am aware the role the keeper is performing. He's a excellent team player, he's a true figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"He was heavily involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."

'It's Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game

Italy international Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.

He stated after the game that he had to take the criticism.

"That goal was a error of mine, I take responsibility for that," he said.

"The intent was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He said receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It's on us to stay increasingly calm, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in calmness and poise to reverse outcomes. This match is a bad defeat and it is hard to take."

'I Was Surprised No One Returned to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's error, it was far from an simple goal for Harry Wilson to score.

In fact it was the second longest-range top division score of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to target.

Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was five seconds following the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson said.

"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which gave me a little extra opportunity. After that it was all about attempting to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I felt a positive feeling, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Work Against You'

Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

While Vicario's mistake dominated coverage, this was an all-round bad performance for Spurs to continue their home woes.

The match was their 10th at home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared team statistic matching 1994 and 2003.

They still have home games against Frank's former club the Bees and champions the Reds to come prior to the end of the season.

Just a single of those wins have come after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are down 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," stated the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything appears to go against you too – the first was a redirected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have lost another match. Every game has a single story, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to learn."

Tottenham have been defeated in four straight at home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging 9.5 attempts and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest averages on file in a single campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Ex- Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He must accept the criticism," the pundit said. "He's taken a high profile role at a major team with massive expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
