Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side just seven months following leading disrespectful chants directed at their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has signed a agreement with the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds concluded amicably this past summer.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading offensive songs about Chris Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue the team he loves away from the relegation zone.
Past History Between Bamford & Wilder
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
All seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford hoping to revive his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Career Challenges
Bamford featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
