Chief Executive Endorses Legislation to Release Further Jeffrey Epstein Files After Period of Opposition

Donald Trump announced on late Wednesday that he had endorsed the legislation overwhelmingly passed by US legislators that mandates the federal justice agency to release more files regarding the deceased financier, the dead child sexual abuser.

This decision arrives after months of pushback from the chief executive and his supporters in Congress that divided his political supporters and created rifts with some of his longtime supporters.

The president had fought against disclosing the Epstein documents, calling the issue a "hoax" and criticizing those who sought to release the files available, notwithstanding promising their release on the political campaign.

But he altered his position in the past few days after it was evident the legislative chamber would endorse the legislation. Donald Trump stated: "Everything is transparent".

The specifics remain uncertain what the agency will make public in as a result of the measure – the bill outlines a host of potential items that need to be disclosed, but allows exclusions for certain documents.

Trump Approves Measure to Compel Disclosure of Additional Jeffrey Epstein Records

The measure calls for the attorney general to make non-classified Epstein-connected files accessible to the public "in a searchable and downloadable format", including all investigations into Epstein, his colleague Ghislaine Maxwell, aircraft records and movement logs, people cited or listed in association with his illegal activities, institutions that were linked to his exploitation or money operations, immunity deals and further court deals, organizational messages about prosecution choices, documentation of his confinement and death, and particulars about potential document destruction.

The department will have one month to submit the files. The bill provides for some exceptions, encompassing redactions of confidential victim data or private records, any descriptions of youth molestation, disclosures that would compromise ongoing inquiries or prosecutions and representations of death or exploitation.
