Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with performances so bad.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
